Thanks, Mariana for posting these paintings by Rackham - my all-time favourite illustrator. He used his pen with great precision when drawing, and his watercolour brush with fantastic judgement creating a sort of monotone painting.
Hi Michael. I think his work, like Harry Clarke's, probably doesn't translate very well to the internet. And yet one can still see how awesome it is. I'd love to see his work in person some day.
Yes, it would certainly be a joy to see the originals of his works. I've always wondered about the size of his paintings, the effect of lifting watercolour paints from his paper, the intensity of his inks, how the original compares with the prints, etc. I haven't heard of any expositions but who knows ... maybe once Tim Burton's Alice is released there may be some pressure in having some of his works exhibited.
